Our sweet, yet very ornery, brown-eyed boy, Grey, was born in 2013 with special needs. Like so many other parents of children with special needs, we entered an unknown place; unsure what the best next steps were to help our child reach his maximum potential.
What we found in our search was both heartbreaking and inspiring. While we have interacted with many programs and people that can and do give appropriate and compassionate care and interventions, we have also found that needed resources are not accessible to everyone, including Grey at times, who needs them (more on that later).
One of the primary goals of this organization is to raise funds and awareness for early childhood intervention for children with developmental delays and disabilities, as well as their families. We hope to give back to the amazing programs and schools that have already made an incredible difference in Grey’s and so many other children’s and their families’ lives, as well as support schools and other programs that need help to be more inclusive and create a greater, positive impact. We also hope to support the incredible work of the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
Our fundraisers, or adventures, will be our primary platform for raising awareness and funds. This website and our social media pages will provide updates regarding adventure opportunities and outcomes, as well as provide information regarding resources and experiences.
I also hope Camp Grey will provide support to other parents and caretakers who, like me, sometimes feel a little overwhelmed. I know reading other stories from those who have children with special needs has been very helpful to me. I will be sharing a few stories about our journey along the way.
Grey’s disabilities are not our focus. We cannot take them away or change what has happened, but we feel confident that through intervention and love there is hope for a great future full of so many possibilities for him, as well as for others.
